FAQ

Choosing, answered

How do I choose which privacy tool I need?

Start from the problem, not the product. Trackers following you → an ad blocker. Your data on broker sites → a removal service. Weak passwords → a password manager. Public Wi-Fi → a VPN. The table above maps the most common situations to the right starting page; each one then lays out the free and paid options in full.

Do I really need all of these?

No. Stack them by impact rather than installing everything at once — a password manager and an ad blocker do the most for the least effort, which is why our action plan starts there. Add the others as they fit your situation. Most people never need all six.

Are the free versions good enough?

Often, yes. Bitwarden (passwords), Microsoft Defender (antivirus) and Proton VPN's free tier are all genuinely strong, and California's DROP platform removes your data for free. Our toolkit shows exactly where each free option stops and a paid upgrade starts — so you only pay when there's a real reason to.
